In January of 1854, three pioneering families inspired by their dreams of adventure, made their way from Mississippi and settled in the frontier land, just 30 miles west of the Texas state capital. On June 5th, 1857, Jonathan Moss, a founding father, became the first postmaster of the humble township. For the post office to be recognized, the community needed a name. Moss' wife, Nannie, aptly called it, "Dripping Springs", after the source located at the Milk House Branch of the Edwards Aquifer. Drippin' as it is fondly called, soon became a stagecoach stop for travelers, and was later adopted as part of a freight line that ran between Austin and the neighboring town of Fredericksburg. Today, Dripping Springs is referred to as the Gateway to the beautiful Texas Hill Country, and boasts a growing population of new residents and a thriving business community.
Dripping Springs is also home to the Dripping Springs Business Network (DSBN), an active synergy of local business owners and professionals, committed to excellence.
